THIS SIMPLE BEAUTY TIP THAT WILL HELP TO KEEP YOUR LOCKS HEALTHY AND HAPPY

Anthony Nader swears by this simple beauty tip that will help to keep your locks healthy and happy as seen on GRAZIA Australia

The humble pillowcase has had many reiterations, but none have been so precious as its silk incarnation. Once only reserved only those of sovereign stature, the silk pillowcase is now accessible to the masses. But why choose silk over your fleecy flannel counterparts? All in the name of beauty, of course.

Whilst Sleeping Beauty always slept on her back, there is a good chance you don’t. After-dark wriggling and wiggling may seem innocuous enough, but a lot happens in that protracted phase when night falls (no, dirty minds). Hair loss, fine lines, dehydration, collapsed blow-waves (ermahgerd, stop, it’s all too much) – it’s a beauty disaster.

Lucky then, that the silk pillowcase is here to save the day (or night).

The benefits of a silk slip transcend mere touch and feel, proffering a host of benefits for both skin and hair. Their cotton counterparts cause friction of the unwanted variety between the sheets; of skin and pillow. This in turn causes lines (we’ve all been there – waking up crinkle-faced and cranky) and over time, such innocent lines become forever wrinkles. But, silky, shiny, sheeny cases make for smooth snuggling sans any friction.

There’s also the promise of frizz-free, healthier locks, as top hairstylist Anthony Nader explains: “When resting your head on say cotton or cotton blend, this tends to agitate and rough up the hair cuticle, which leaves you waking like you’ve had a rough night’s sleep; because of the silk fibres being smooth and shiny, when you sleep at night and you move your head, your strands will glide or even slide along the fibre with ease. You’ll notice a photo finish difference in the morning and also less time styling, which can zap up your morning routine before running out the door.” It also keeps your blow-wave buoyant for extra days (phew).

Plus it locks in your skin’s natural moisture, not absorbing any lavish (and expensive) night creams applied before hitting the sack. And for those prone to a sneeze and a snuffle, silk repels allergens such as dust, pollen and bed bugs; so bulbous morning eyes be gone.

For your most sovereign sleep yet, five of the cutest for your consideration, plus one nifty, silky sleep appendage. Time to slip into something more comfortable.

EASY FIVE-MINUTE HAIR – OH YES, IT DOES EXIST

10c0c39aeee93ba43415c950dabff4c2

Sure mermaid hair might look pretty on Instagram, but most of us don’t have the time, or the inclination, to look like a mythical creature every single morning. Hell, most days we struggle to look like your standard bridge dwelling troll.

The good news is that chic five-minute hair can – and does – exist, you just need to know how. We hit up the top hairdressers in Australia for their best five-minute hair picks, so you can focus on the important stuff (read: that second coffee).

Upside-down French twist

The stylist: Anthony Nader, Celebrity stylist and founder of RAW Salon says, “I love that this seems like you’ve put in a lot of effort because it looks quite technical, but it’s so simple. And, because texture is key here it doesn’t matter if your hair looks like a birds nest – in fact that’s what will help the twist hold for longer!”

The rundown: This version of five-minute hair doesn’t need to be washed, but it does need grit – so start with a spray of dry shampoo to soak up any oil. Massage it in with fingertips then rake the hair from the front to the back so you have airiness to the shape. Gather hair just below the crown of the head, and then twist the tail from the crown downwards so it’s facing the ground. If your hair is longer than the shoulders, pin half the tail into the crease so there’s not too much excess. Secure hair with bobby pins as you twist, but leave the tail to fall free. If pieces fall out around the face, don’t freak – this is exactly what keeps the twist looking French-girl cool instead of Marie Antoinette.

Half-up half-down topknot

The stylist: Byron Turnbull, from Edwards and Co says “the genius thing about this five-minute hair look is that it suits everyone and works on all hair types.”

The rundown: Take a section of hair running from the forehead to the crown (it should be just above the ear). Secure with an elastic, then twist the hair, wrapping it around the base of the knot and loosely pinning in place. This look isn’t about ballerina-perfect – it’s meant to look modern and unstructured. Next, grab a medium tong and roughly curl the mid lengths in random sections, leaving out the ends. Shake out when cool, and spray with a dry shampoo for extra texture.

Loose twisted pony

The stylist: Richi Grisillo, Creative Director at Academie salon says “I love that even on a bad hair day you can use this style to create texture and transform your hair – plus it’s super easy!”

The rundown: Part your hair and take a section (approximately 10 centimetres) from the part to the top of the ear, then twist inwards, away from the face. Next, take a smaller section below the first (similar to how you would braid) and twist, adding it into the first section. Repeat until you reach the back of the head, then secure with a hair tie. Replicate on the opposite side, fixing both sections together at the nape of the neck, then gently pull some areas of the twists to help create a softer look. Finish with a light veil of a hair oil spray and boom! Five-minute hair before the coffee has even brewed.

Oh, and here’s the time-saving products they swear by too…

Kevin Murphy Shimmer Shine, $42.95. For every day polish: “you should finish any hair style with a shine spray” says Byron.

Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk $14.99. For days you can’t be bothered: “dry shampoo is perfect for the time poor and instantly gives you hair that instant oomph,” says Anthony.

Mimco Tempest Barette, $39.95, For less than five-minute hair: “Hair hard wear is always neglected, but it’s such an easy and chic way to make it look like more effort has been put in to your hair,” says Richi.
